LOCATION:

The Partnership team works in a hybrid capacity. This position is expected to be in schools 40-80% of the time (2-4 days/week), with occasional visits to the Partnership office in Downtown LA.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Partnership is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and experienced Coordinator of Curriculum Systems Advising to join the Partnership’s K-12 Mathematics team to support the Partnership’s systems change efforts for high-need schools in Los Angeles. The Coordinator of Curriculum Systems Advising will play a vital role in the Partnership’s systems change work by scaling effective professional learning and curriculum implementation systems to LAUSD schools with a focus on mathematics. This role will work alongside the Director of Curriculum Systems Advising and instructional leaders across a portfolio of 10 school sites to build durable systems for planning, instruction, and data analysis using a curriculum-first approach. The Coordinator supports school site designees to design and facilitates strong professional learning and collaborative experiences for teachers to build the capacity of instructional leaders to take on this work. In addition, this role will support the design and development of group learning professional development for instructional coaches, teacher leaders, and administrators in support of LAUSD’s math vision and goals. This is a full-time, year-round position and is grant-funded through summer 2029.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

Teacher Leader Capacity Building (70%)

  • Support the development of teacher leaders and distributed leadership across a portfolio of 10 school sites by operating as a coach of coaches
  • Partner with LAUSD staff and Director on the Curriculum Systems Advising Team to build the capacity of school leadership teams in building professional learning systems that sustain improvement in alignment with LAUSD’s priorities
  • Work with school leadership teams to implement high-quality mathematics curriculum while leveraging data to adjust and strengthen instruction
  • Build a strong culture in school math departments by providing one-on-one capacity-building support to teacher leaders, instructional coaches, and other instructional leaders and maximizing the use of professional development and Professional Learning Community (PLC) time at the school site
  • Model strong and curriculum-first professional learning by planning and facilitating professional development at school sites  
 

Strategic Professional Learning Design (20%)

  • Operate as the Curriculum Systems Advising Team's resident expert of a grade span by developing and translating expertise in the Illustrative Mathematics Curriculum, the California Math Framework, and effective math pedagogical practices
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Systems Advising and Math teams to provide input on the professional development pathways for teacher leaders, instructional coaches, and administrators 
  • Support facilitation of group learning experiences across the district, occasionally serving as the lead facilitator
  • Lead the development and use of math curricular materials for a grade span, including curriculum maps, assessment tools, and other tools to support teachers and students in meeting the demands set by standards
  • Participate in collaborative spaces with other Partnership teams, such as the Math Team, Transform Schools Team, and other dynamic teaming structures, as needed 
  • Maintaining positive and responsive relationships with district leadership
 

Implementation Monitoring & Project Management (10%)

  • Conduct classroom observations and collect teacher practice data to support department-wide growth and promote student learning
  • Assist site leaders in observing for and supporting effective instruction of high-quality curriculum
  • Work with the Director of Curriculum Systems Advising and Vice President of School Transformation to develop and execute priority initiatives for math instruction at LAUSD schools
  • Maintain trackers for data, coaching, professional development, and other requests from the Director of Curriculum Systems Advising
 

POSITION FIRST-YEAR PRIORITIES

A successful first year in this role will look like:

 
  • Build credibility and relationships with senior LAUSD Regional staff and school leadership teams in their region 
  • Ensure top-quality delivery of professional learning services for their Region through effective collaboration with the broader Curriculum Systems Advising Team 
  • Ensure schools within their portfolio are meeting improvement milestones, as collaboratively determined by the school and regional staff 
 

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 5 years of successful full-time teaching experience at the elementary/secondary  level
  • At least 2 years of successful leadership experience within the school context (coach, department chair, BTSA coach, peer observer, principal, assistant principal, etc.)
  • Deep working knowledge of and experience with the Common Core Standards for Mathematics, the California Math Framework, and/or Illustrative Mathematics 
  • Experience designing, organizing, and facilitating professional learning for adult learners. 
  • Experience leading teams through cycles of inquiry that have led to sustained improvement in teaching and learning practices. 
  • A proven record of academic success working with students in historically underserved schools and setting high expectations for teachers and students.
  • Experience working across multiple schools is a plus
  • Experience and/or familiarity with Illustrative Mathematics curriculum is a plus 
  • Ability to travel between school sites and Partnership Home Office

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The starting salary range for external candidates is $103,644-$111,047. The Partnership’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion extends to our compensation practices. Our goal is to ensure that salaries are fair for all staff members who hold many intersectional identities, and we set salaries based on a robust compensation model grounded in consistency and transparency. The exact salary for this position is dependent on the relevant skills and experiences that the candidate brings to the role.
